Extreme mode

FoldThrough’s custom picture format for responsive desktops on stable, high-capacity connections.

What Extreme does

Extreme, also called LAN Turbo, is FoldThrough’s custom GPU-based picture format. Its desktop path is designed around screen changes and fine interface detail. It requires Pro and compatible graphics support on both devices.

Desktop work

Choose Picture Format → Extreme Mode and keep Gaming off for code, email, browsers and simulator interfaces. Unchanged areas and small screen updates are efficient; scrolling, animation and full-screen changes can produce much larger bursts.

Use Balanced to reduce bandwidth, or Sharp Text to preserve color detail where supported. Extreme carries 8-bit color; use Standard for HDR on a supported path.

Does it need a cable?

No. Strong, uncongested Wi-Fi can work, but being on the same LAN does not guarantee consistent capacity. Wi-Fi shares airtime, and frame bursts can queue and add delay. A fast speed-test result alone does not establish a good fit.

A wired connection generally offers more consistent delivery. If Extreme stutters or input feels delayed, switch to Standard, reduce Stream Size or use fewer displays.

Extreme with Gaming

Gaming selects a different response profile. When supported by both devices, Extreme uses GPU motion prediction to reduce repeated picture data. It trades some color detail for responsiveness and lower traffic, but complex motion can still demand substantial bandwidth. Lost frame dependencies need recovery.

Manual selection versus Automatic

Manually selected Extreme remains in Extreme while adapting to a weaker connection. It does not automatically become Standard. Choose Automatic if you want the app to switch formats as network conditions change.
