Know who can connect
Pair deliberately, review trusted devices and add an optional Access PIN.
Approve the device in front of you
FoldThrough pairing shows a six-digit code on both devices. Compare the codes and approve the request on the host only when you recognize the connecting device. Local pairing works without an account.
Paired FoldThrough sessions use end-to-end encryption. Connections can be direct or use a relay fallback; the relay does not receive the keys needed to read the session. This describes the FoldThrough protocol, not every third-party connection type.
Add an Access PIN
An Access PIN is an extra check on top of pairing or account trust. It is free and is set at the host.
- Mac: open the FoldThrough menu and choose Access PIN.
- Windows: use the host's Access PIN controls in This PC or the tray.
- Linux: run
remote-host pin seton the host.
Choose whether the host asks every time, daily, or once per device. Wrong attempts lead to increasing delays and lockout. If you forget the PIN, remove it at the host and set a new one; pairing cannot bypass it.
Review your devices
Use Your Devices to rename account devices or remove those you no longer use or recognize. New Device Notices help you notice additions. Export and Import Computers transfers names, addresses and settings; passwords and the device's pairing key remain on the original device.
Control what is shared
Disable Share Clipboard or microphone forwarding when you do not need them. On supported hosts, Privacy Mode blanks local screens and locks the computer when the session ends. Linux hosts do not currently offer Privacy Mode.
Keep the host and viewer updated together. Never approve an unexpected pairing request merely to dismiss it.
