Sound, clipboard & files

Bring the small things with you

Move between devices without losing the tools around your desktop.

Hear your computer

Turn on Play Sound from Host to hear the remote computer through your viewer. Turn it off when unnecessary to save some network and battery. In a supported two-computer layout, Sound from Both Computers plays both sources; otherwise you hear the computer you are using.

Use your microphone remotely

  1. On a Mac host, choose Install Microphone Support… from FoldThrough's menu. Installation asks for administrator approval.
  2. On a supported viewer, enable Use Device Microphone on Host and grant microphone access.
  3. In the remote meeting or recording app, select FoldThrough Microphone.

The microphone is used only while connected. Linux hosts have a PipeWire virtual microphone source. Windows hosts do not currently provide a virtual microphone; Windows and Linux desktop viewers do not offer microphone forwarding.

Copy and paste

Share Clipboard works in both directions. Apple clients support text, rich text, HTML and images. Windows and Linux desktop viewers currently share text. Turn sharing off to keep copied content on its original device.

Send and retrieve files

On supporting Apple/mobile clients, use the file picker or drag files onto the session. Uploads to a Mac go to Downloads. You can also browse the remote home folder to retrieve files. Transfer progress appears in the session. File transfer is not currently exposed in Windows and Linux desktop viewers.

Open a terminal

On iPhone, iPad and Android, supported Mac and Linux hosts can open a terminal through the same paired, encrypted connection. You do not need to configure a separate SSH service. A dropped connection can resume within a limited grace period; deliberately closing the terminal ends its shell. Windows hosts and desktop viewers do not currently offer terminals.
